Directions to On the Windfall

From points Northwest:

  • I-81 in Virginia to Abington, VA.
  • Look for US-58. There are 2 exits marked 58. One is Alt. 58 the other is US Hwy 58. Take the US Hwy 58 Exit. There will be a Cracker Barrel on the West side of I-81.
  • Go 10 miles on US-58 East to Damascus.
  • Continue on US-58/VA-91 (Jeb Stuart Hwy.) east of Damascus for about a mile where US-58 will diverge to the left and continue to White Top, VA. (Approx. 17.5 miles) Hang onto to your hat. It is a scenic and twisting road.
  • 1/10 mile past the White Top, VA Post Office and Volunteer Fire Department, turn right on Mud Creek Road (Hwy 600). (As of April ’09 the Mud Creek Road sign had been removed, however Mud Creek Road is gravel and is the first road past the Post Office on the right.)
    • NOTE: Hwy 600 from the north will intersect US-58 across from the White Top, VA Post Office. You will pick up Hwy 600 (Mud Creek Road) when you turn right past the Post Office.
  • Follow Mud Creek Road approx. 2.5 mi. to the stop sign at Big Horse Creek Rd.
  • Turn right on Big Horse Creek Road and go 1.0 mi. Just past (less than 100 yds.) the Apple Grove Baptist Church on the left, veer left on to Big Windfall Road (gravel).
  • Follow Big Windfall Road 1.0 mi. to top of mountain and turn left at stop sign.
  • Go 100 ft and turn left at the next stop sign.
  • You are now on Little Windfall Road
  • On the left you will pass a white house and on the right the Pond Mountain Primitive Baptist Church. Go approx ¼ mi from the stop sign to Lane on the Windfall. Turn left through the steel gates and stone columns. Look for the signs to point you in the direction to your cottage.

From Points Northeast:

  • 81 South toward Chilhowie 0.1 mi
  • urn left onto Co Rd 762/VA-107 S/Whitetop Rd
  • Continue to follow Co Rd 762/Whitetop Rd
    • 3.7 mi
  • Continue straight onto Co Rd 600/St Clairs Creek Rd 1.2 mi
  • Continue onto Co Rd 762/Whitetop Rd - 0.2 mi
  • Slight right toward Co Rd 762/Whitetop Rd - 0.2 mi
  • Continue straight onto Co Rd 762/Whitetop Rd Continue to follow Whitetop Rd - 6.1 mi
  • Turn left onto Co Rd 600/Whitetop Rd
  • Continue to follow Co Rd 600 - 1.9 mi
  • Continue onto Whitetop Rd - 3.3 mi
  • Continue onto State Route 600/Whitetop Mountain Rd - 2.9 mi
  • Turn left onto US-58 E/Highlands Pkwy

  • Go 100 ft and turn left at the next stop sign.
  • You are now on Little Windfall Road
  • On the left you will pass a white house and on the right the Pond Mountain Primitive Baptist Church and cemetary. Go approx ¼ mi from the stop sign to Lane on the Windfall. Turn left through the steel gates and stone columns. Look for the signs to point you in the direction to your cottage.

From points South:

  • I77 North past Statesville to Hwy 421 North toward Boone.
  • Go a total of 57.4 miles to the Hwy 221 intersection passing through North Wilkesboro.
  • Slight right onto the ramp to US-221 N toward West Jefferson.
  • Follow Hwy 221, for 12.4 miles to the traffic light intersection of Hwys 221/163/194. Turn left at this intersection on Hwy 194 N. This will take you through downtown West Jefferson and will merge with Hwy 88 about one mile north of West Jefferson.
  • Approximately 5-6 miles north of West Jefferson turn right in Warrensville as 194 N continues to Lansing, NC.
  • At the 3 way stop sign in Lansing go straight on to South Big Horse Creek Road and continue about 3 miles to the Tuckerdale Baptist Church that will be on the right. Turn left on Big Windfall Road.
  • Follow Big Windfall Road to top of mountain. Pavement will end and road will narrow; continue straight at intersection. Big Windfall turns into Little Windfall. Go past the Pond Mountain Baptist Church about 2/10 mile.
  • On the left you will see a red metal roofed barn across a pasture, turn left on Lane on the Windfall through the stone columns. You are here at On the Windfall. Look for the signs to point you in the direction to your cottage.
